- Welcome ʻoli (Chant Of Welcome) – In Hawai‘i, it is proper protocol to start events of importance with a prayer or ‘oli (chant) of welcome. This brings everyone together in one mind, one heartbeat, one thought to move forward united and in the spirit of your event.
- Pū Kani (Conch Shell Blower) – Whether signifying the start of an event or transitioning an event, the sound of the conch shell will get the attention you seek.
- Lei Greeters – Greet your guests Hawaiian-style, with a fresh flower or kukui nut lei by greeters (male and female as requested) at the entrance of your event. Lei represent a continuum of aloha to adorn you always. Lei to be selected and ordered separately based on current market price. Duration: 1–2 hours
- Fire Pit – Warm up your night time function on the beach at coconut grove. Storyteller and s’mores booked separately. Duration: 3 hours
- VIP Canoe Arrival –Have your VIP or surprise guest arrive Hawaiian style aboard a double-hulled canoe paddled by our very own Fairmont Orchid Hui Holokai Beach Ambassador. Their arrival announced by the sound of the conch shell will be sure to catch your guests’ attention. This entrance is a great highlight to events held at Coconut Grove. For evening
hours, ask our team about the enhancement of a torch lit setting. Hawaiian outfit available. 1 Guest Max - Hawaiian Makahiki Games – Play Hawaiian games of skill with our Hui Holokai. Choose from Kōnane, Hawaiian checkers, Ulumaika, similar to bowling, and Moa Pahe’e, a dart sliding game. Games can be arranged to fit your group’s unique theme or needs. Duration: 2 hours
- Volleyball – Enjoy a game of beach volleyball at Pauoa Bay! Organized or pick up games available. Simply reserve the court and a referee if desired. Duration: 3 hours
- Hula Lessons – Have your group learn hula basics, history and folklore as they participate in one of Hawai‘i’s treasured arts, the hula. For participants of all ages. Sound system is required for groups larger than 25 an additional fee. Duration: 1 hour
- Various Lawn Games – Choice of: Giant Jenga, Giant Connect Four, Bocce Ball, Ladderball and Cornhole. Special Requested Games not listed may be arranged inquire with Manager. Duration: 2 hours
- Kalāhiki Canoe Experience (The arrival of the sun) – A truly unique way to begin your day. Join our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors and witness the arrival of the sun over the majestic Maunakea. The blowing of the conch to welcome the sun, along with an ancient Hawaiian ‘oli (chant) will surely give you what we call “chicken skin.” This is the only way to start your day! 7-10 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour
- Outrigger Canoe Tour – Embark on a journey with our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors by paddling a traditional Hawaiian canoe and learning the history of the Hawaiian method of transportation within the islands. 7-10 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour
- Canoe Regatta – Host your very own canoe race! Three teams of three will be led by our very own Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors as you race in heats leading up to a final elimination. In true Hawaiian style, each paddler is greeted back on shore with a lei to celebrate. Reserve up to 3 four-man canoes for your attendees to race in. Awards not included and can be customized for your event. Duration: 2-4 hours
- Canoe Snorkeling Adventure – Discover the captivating Kohala coastline while paddling with our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors. Spot sea caves, underwater arches and stunning coral formations where the abundance of different reef fish are thriving! 2 Guests Min/ 7 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour
- Canoe Fishing Adventure – Hawaiians never say they are ‘going fishing’—it is said that the fish hear this and hide in caves or rocks, so you will not catch anything to feed your family! Therefore, in true Hawaiian custom, we use the term holoholo for this adventure instead. Bamboo poles, line and tackle, and water provided for all attendees. 2 Guests Min/4 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour
- Private Historic Tours – Plan a customized private hike for your attendees to the Puakō Petroglyphs or the Nā Mea Waiwai O Milokūkahi (Treasure of Milokūkahi). Cold bottled water provided. 15 guests max per tour guide. Duration: 1.5-2 hours
- Shoreline Holoholo (Fishing) Tournament or Activity – If you enjoy fishing, you will enjoy this leisure holoholo activity. In Hawai‘i, you never ask if someone is going fishing for it is said that the fish hear this and hide in caves or rocks, so you will likely come home empty handed. Instead we say “holoholo”, which means, “I’m just going out, here and there.” Go holoholo with our Hui Holokai to their favorite spot on the shoreline. Bamboo poles, line, tackle, and water provided. Awards available for all participants. For guests of all ages. 4 Guests Min/15 Guests Max.
- Moonlight Canoe Rides – Enjoy a moonlight paddle accompanied by the cool ocean spray and the magical view of the resort and island. Reserve up to four canoes captained by our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors.
- Stand-Up Paddle Lesson – Paddle boarding originated in Hawai‘i and is now considered the fastest growing water sport on the planet. Learn from the Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors and explore stand up paddle boarding within the lagoon. 4 Guests Max.
- Stand Up Paddle Adventure – Paddle boarding originated in Hawai‘i and is now considered the fastest growing water sport on the planet. Learn from our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors and explore stand up paddle boarding beyond the lagoon and into the deep blue! 4 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour.
- Explore Pauoa Bay Snorkel – Let our Hui Holokai Beach Ambassadors guide you through an underwater tour of our very own Pauoa Bay. See our resident honu (Hawaiian sea turtles) and learn about sea urchins and the important role they play in the reef ecosystem. You’ll have a chance to spot an octopus, various reef fish and even an eagle ray! We will supply the gear—just bring your swimsuit and adventurous spirit! 2 Guests Min/10 Guests Max. Duration: 1 hour
Add to the ambiance of your event with traditional Hawaiian activities that your attendees can participate in. Our Hui Holokai are ready to host the following arts and crafts for you:
- Coconut Frond Weaving–Weave fish, canoes or baskets.
- Lei Making–Learn to make lei. Choose from a variety of lei styles; ti leaf-hilo, flower lei-kui, braided-haku, twined-wili.
- Kukui Kupe’e–Make your very own kukui bracelet or anklet as you learn about our treasured kukui plant and all it provides.
- Coconut Husking & Coconut Water Tasting
- Throw Net Demonstration–Learn to handle and throw a large fish net as you practice an ancient Hawaiian fishing style that is still practiced today.
- Petroglyph Making–Create your own petroglyph (lava etchings).
