A Taste of Pacific and Asia: Fairmont Orchid Shines

This year, our talented culinary team had the privilege of participating in the Mystery Box Challange at the Hawaiʻi Kuauli Pacific & Asia Cultural Festival. This festival brought together some Hawaiʻi Islands finest chefs and mixologists to showcase their talents and creativity.

Taste of Pacific and Asia Mystery Box Challenge

Fairmont Orchid’s Executive Chef Isabel Chung and Binchotan Bar & Grill Chef de Cuisine Maikaʻi Coelho competed in the Mystery Box Challenge against four top local chefs. Each chef received a box containing various local products, all of which had to be included in their final dish for the judging round. Ultimately, Chef Isabel and Chef Maikaʻi impressed the judges with their charred short rib musubi, served with roasted garlic truffle tare and Asian pear kimchee. Watch the thrilling competition here.

Kuleana Rum Shack Cocktail Showdown

While our chefs continued to impress with their delectable creations, Jose Salinas represented us in the Cocktail Showdown. His Kuleana rum cocktail was a tropical delight, narrowly missing first place by one vote.
